QUALITATIVE AND QUANTITATIVE VARIATION IN PLANKTON COMMUNITIES BETWEEN MONO AND POLYCULTURE SYSTEMS IN KHULNA, BANGLADESH

Plankton population of shrimp and shrimp-GIFT (Genetically Improved Farmed Tilapia) culture ponds were studied. The present study was carried out to estimate phytoplankton zooplankton abundance diversity in mono polyculture systems. A total 13 genera cyanophyceae, chlorophyceae, bacillariophyceae, euglenophyceae, rhodophyceae dinophyceae recorded from the monoculture while 12 measured shrimp-tilapia mixed ponds. Six under copepod, rotifer, cladocera, ostracoda identified system 7 found numbers species be significantly (p<0.05) higher monoculture, compared system. In both systems, cyanophyceae copepod dominant groups.
